The three invited artists have been determined!

We are pleased to announce the following three artists invited to the Animation Artist in Residence 2010-2011 Tokyo.

About “Animation Artist in Residence 2010-2011 Tokyo”
This project, organized by the Japanese Agency for Cultural Affairs and the Japan Image Council, is an artist in residence program which aims to provide three outstanding young animation artists from around the world with an opportunity to come to Tokyo and create new works while directly interacting with Japanese animation culture. In doing so, we aim to promote both the creation of excellent works of animation and a better understanding of Japanese culture.
Duration of the program: 75 days between January and March of 2011.

Profile of the invited Artists

Mr. Chen Xi(China)
He started to learn drawing comics at his early age. He graduated from Beijing Film Academy with the master degree in 2010. He once worked as a TV animation director and an independent director. His works were published serially for many Chinese magazines. In 2010, he is awarded by a Special International Jury Prize in Hiroshima International Animation Festival.

Mr. Christophe Gautry (France)
After working as a computer engineer, Christopher studied screenplay writing at EMCA in Angouleme as well as direction of animated movies in “La Poudrière” school in Valence. While working for the prestigious animation studio Folimage, he directed several short films. He now focuses on the development and direction of various projects using different techniques of animation or live action.

Mr. Joseph Pierce (U.K.)
Joseph Pierce graduated in 2008 from the National Film and Television School, UK and was named one of Screen International’s “Stars of Tomorrow”. His work includes, theatre, music promos, animated art and comedy, with clients including Atlanta Records, The BBC and Royal Opera House. He is co-writing a feature film script with BBC Films and preparing his first animated feature.
